I've seen slight morphing in the past, eg; curled tails, and colors that match different plants, and flowers that they camouflage into. The new babies eat the real small pests that are first to invade. Between them and my resident population, I have a formidable insectoid force, keeping watch over all my property. Quality product. If you do collect an ootheca in the hope of watching it hatch, keep it in your refrigerator to simulate winter temperatures, or better yet, keep it in an unheated shed or detached garage.

They emerge in hunting mode and will eat their siblings without hesitation. Let them disperse in your garden, where they will help with pest control.
