During this time, he was reaped for the Games, and did not volunteer, and nobody volunteered for him. During the parade, he was dressed up like a tree. In the countdown, he stood next to James and Woof. The District 7 stylist had designed costumes for the pair that resembled trees and had been doing so for the last 40 years.
Blight joined hands with the other twenty-three tributes as a sign of rebellion in the interviews. In the film, he wore an orange vest with greenish-gray sleeves and orange pants for his interview. Blight survived the initial Cornucopia bloodbath , obtaining an axe. By the time he and Johanna got to the Cornucopia , Katniss was long gone and Beetee had recently arrived.
Beetee ran to retrieve his wire from the Cornucopia, but was stabbed when he got there by Enobaria. Johanna and Blight then managed to drag Beetee out of there and retrieve Wiress before escaping the massacre.
Twelve tolls from a bell at midnight starting the second day signaled that the bloodbath was over and that the clock had started. Blight, Johanna, Wiress and Beetee had been wandering around the jungle in search for Katniss, Peeta , Mags, and Finnick, and were now getting dehydrated. The lighting storm that happened throughout the jungle just behind them and the now looming dark clouds over top of them, made them believe that rain was coming and that they could finally quench their thirst.
But what came down was hot and heavy blood which almost blinded them. The blood rain poured endlessly for an hour, forcing Blight, Johanna, Wiress and Beetee to attempt to take cover. Unfortunately, Blight accidentally ran head first into the force field along the edge of the arena.
He was thrown backwards and his heart stopped, very much like Peeta's accident, although unlike Peeta, there was no one capable of resuscitating him to save his life.
