Is it possible to downgrade os x lion

The downgrade process requires you to erase your startup drive and lose all your current data, so be sure to back up your Mac before proceeding. In addition, there's no guarantee that any user data that was created with a version of OS X that post-dates Snow Leopard or the apps that created them will be usable with Snow Leopard. In many cases, your user data is transferable. For example, a photo in any of the standard image formats should work just fine with Snow Leopard, but your Apple Mail messages may not be readable by the Snow Leopard version of Mail because Apple changed message formats in some of the later versions of OS X.

This is just one example of the type of issues that may surface when downgrading from one version of OS X to a previous version. If you're willing to try the downgrade process, create a clone of the current Mac startup drive on a bootable external drive that is not your current startup disk.

Remember, this process erases all the data on your startup drive, so — to repeat — have a full, current backup of your data before beginning the downgrade process. Actively scan device characteristics for identification.

I wouldn't advise using Lion Even if you don't care about the general improvements in capability and in my opinion usability with the latest OS, Lion is no longer supported by security updates and you will find many more recent apps won't work on it and some websites may also fail to work well on Lion's version of Safari.

Consider partitioning your hard disk or using an external disk so you can keep If you had it previously you should be able to download from the App Store by signing in to the account you used to obtain it in the first place. If it came with your computer, you may have an OS restore disk do they still include those with new Macs? Or, perhaps, it's simpler to upgrade the software you are not currently able to use? Jan 17, PM. Kappy I really appreciate you helping me. I did go through all those steps but at 5 I get that message box that comes up and will not install snow Leoopard. Like the box says - I have to either reboot or restore from backup. I went down both of those roads with no results. When I reboot it just send me around the circle again.

So I'm having a hangup there. Actually I just tried it again and after I click the language, it pulls up this dialog box and the Utilities are greyed out and unaccessible.

That is the same dialogue box above. In the past I just chose the back up option which allowed me to access the pull down menus in order to access disk utilites. When I experimented trying to restart from a utilities pull down menu "startup disk and chose the CD" then I get this. Note the "preparing for installation" -- it acts like it is going to install but then this message pops up again. I don't believe you have a valid Snow Leopard installer DVD but rather some kind of update disk which would explain the error dialog.

After choosing my language, I am presented with my drive choices and the internal is not an option!
